Five for Friday!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday to share with you 5 random things we did this week!
fiveforfriday2_thumb[3]

1. We made a visit to the children's museum this week with some friends! This is the best picture we could get with 8 kids ages 6 and under :-)

2. I'm always looking for fun ways to practice sight words with my daughter - so I printed out some words she knows and let her paint them!

3. We started learning about action verbs, so we looked through magazines to find words or pictures that showed verbs.

4. We finished up our ocean life unit this week. One fun experiment we did was to put some sand and water in a bowl and then added a little bit of oil. My son's job was to "clean up" the ocean - and we found out how hard it can be!

5. I put up a new Thanksgiving freebie in my TpT store! Color by number and color by sight word pages. Grab them here!

Cute Pumpkin Seeds Craft

After our fun Pumpkin Investigation the other day, we decided to use some of the seeds for a fun craft!
First we dyed the seeds by putting some in a plastic bag and adding a small splash of vinegar and food coloring! We made green, orange, and brown (red, green, and yellow food coloring). The kids had fun squishing the seeds inside the bags to coat them.

Next we laid them out on paper towels to dry. It took several hours, so we ended up finishing the craft the next day.

I printed out a pumpkin outline I found online, and had the kids cut it out and glue it on their choice of colored paper. Then we just glued the seeds on to make the pumpkin!

Fan Freebie Time

It's time for another Fan Freebie! I am working on a new set of books for my daughter as she is learning to read, and I'm giving away the first seven I've finished to all my TpT followers as a gift to say thank you for following!

To be sure you get this freebie, follow me HERE by clicking the green star under my store name. I will send a note to your TpT inbox in a few days with the freebie! This will be the only chance to get this for free as I will add it as a paid product later on when I complete the set.

Thanks!

Pumpkin Investigation

We had so much fun with our pumpkin investigation today! Each of the kids got their own small pumpkin to investigate. First we talked about words that describe the outside of the pumpkin and the kids drew a picture on their investigation sheets.

The kids made predictions about their pumpkins and wrote them down.

Next, we did some investigations to find out the facts!

Finding weight by measuring the kids with the pumpkin and without! Great way to incorporate more math :)

Counting seeds by making groups of 10

We wrote the findings on the second investigation worksheet.

You can grab these worksheets for free HERE.

The cleaning out and counting seeds took awhile since I had to help them all with it, so if this is an activity you want to do with a classroom of students, I would suggest doing it in groups with parent volunteers!

Tomorrow we are planning on painting pumpkins and making a craft with all of our pumpkin seeds!

Thanksgiving Mystery Picture Freebie!

This cute 120 Chart Mystery Picture is a part of my Thanksgiving Pack, but it also works great for Columbus Day! I hope your kids have fun with it!

Use it as a fun math center, or use it as a fun listening activity where the teacher reads the numbers and colors aloud as the students color in the squares.

You could also pair this with a writing activity like, "Imagine you were sailing with Columbus. Write about the day you discovered America," or "Imagine you are sailing to the Americas to start a new life. Write about what you will do when you land."
